Phase 2, Wave 1 - Learning Workshop 3
Melbourne, 15 & 16 May 2009
The third and final VIC & TAS learning workshop was held at the Bayview Eden on 15 & 16 May 2009. The event hosted over 220 participants from
general practice, representatives from Divisions, and other related fields from across Victoria and Tasmania.
Plenary guest speakers included Dr Richard Bills (VIC & TAS Clinical Chair), Dr Tony Lembke (APCC Clinical Director), Dr Lynne Davies (APCC CHD Expert Reference Panel) and Hugh Kearns Head, Staff Development and Training Unit, Flinders University and Maria Gardiner Project Manager, Mentoring, Staff Development and Training Unit, Flinders University.
Dr Andrew Knight (Chair, Access and Care Redesign Expert Reference Panel) hosted Dr Nathan Pinskier (Medi7 VIC), Ms Debbie Buckley (Practice Manager, Pindara Medical Centre QLD), Dr Paul Brougham (Breed Street Clinic, VIC)& Janine Slater (Practice Manager, Brunswick Heads Medical Centre, NSW) in a panel discussion about sustaining change within the practice.
Other speakers included GPs, practice nurses and
practice managers who were invited from around Australia to present learning sessions using
their personal and professional experiences in promoting positive outcomes in primary health
care. Breakout sessions included topics on Mini Clinics, Patient Self-Management, Allied Care, and the Final Frontier (practices going boldly where no practice has gone before!).
Divisions and their practices 'shared generously' their Collaboratives journey to date by displaying poster and electronic storyboards at the workshop. There were many very creative and interesting storyboards with Knox DGP taking out the prize for best poster and Central Victoria taking out the prize for best electronic storyboard.
